A Letter from the Class of 2020

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Be kind to us. Please. We understand that there are worse things going on around us than getting our senior experience altered. We know that there are people going through struggles worse than we are. That's why we are struggling to feel the grief and disappointment, we feel guilty. Everyone is having different experiences and heartache from this pandemic. But this sucks for us so much. Of course we had senioritis and we wanted to get out SO bad, but not like this. Not getting to say goodbye to those classmate friends that we don't talk to outside of class, not getting that satisfaction of taking that last in-class final knowing that we finally made it, not getting a traditional graduation ceremony. Yes, we are a class and generation that covers up the hurt with memes and jokes, because we don't know what to do other than laugh about it. The sting is still there though, trust me. The terrifying feeling of not knowing what exactly is going to happen if we don't already have jobs because the job market is so uncertain right now. Remember that if you know a college senior, don't forget to tell them that you are proud of them. It's hard to remember that even though we aren't getting a proper ceremony we still worked extremely hard to get here. One thing that can't be taken away is how hard we've worked and everything we've already been through. They can delay or cancel our graduation but we still get that diploma. To anyone still in college, experience and take in every moment and never take advantage of what you have. To my seniors, don't forget to be proud of yourself and cherish every memory you made. Celebrate yourself and your accomplishments.

Here's to us,

- Class of 2020
